We have been investigating the text Knockabout Cricket and decided to have a look at some influential Aboriginal Australians. Our peer tutors showed some class mates how to use a new app on the iPads called Educreations. They were able to design a presentation to share with the class on their chosen ambassador. Using their research skills and abilities to find accurate, reliable websites, the students provided us with a wealth of information on Jessica Mauboy, Cathy Freeman, Adam Goodes and Ruby Hunter . They were very mature and had exceptional organisational skills to complete their project.
Four of our students are learning the Gatthung language every Friday, which prompted us to investigate some Aboriginal terms. In the text, 'Why I Love Australia', there are a few Aboriginal terms that we explored. This created an opportunity for our students to learn about other languages and meanings. We are learning that different groups have different languages and meanings. We are going to create a class dictionary to share our learning. Once again, we had great teamwork skills on display in the lesson to show how responsible we are in 5/6J.
