Due to the nature of the weather conditions, our ANZAC service has been postponed until Thursday 30th April. This week we have been learning about Anzac Day and also participating in some art lessons. We were lucky enough to have Nathan sharing his expertise with us on Monday afternoon to begin our crayon poppy pictures. Here are a couple of first day attempts, stay tuned for the finished products later this week... The finished products were on display in the hall at our Anzac Day commemoration on Thursday. Our school leaders once again conducted themselves with pride and were outstanding hosts.

Mrs John 1....5/6J - 0
I must admit to this being probably the favourite day of the year so far! It is always a good feeling to 'trick' the whole class first thing in the morning. I decided to introduce the students to a new bird in the area - The Lirpaloof :) Nobody caught on, even after I described it as being orange with purple feathers, favourite food being carrots, it only being around once a year.... it goes on.... then when I explained that I had put some carrots outside under the tree and asked if anybody wanted to try and hold up 2 carrots and call the bird to see if it would come down to us, I had a dozen hands up - they were very excited. The rest of the class eagerly walked outside, not making a sound so we didn't scare it away. The two girls were very believing, even singing to the bird to try and entice it... Still no sighting, so I asked for more volunteers to try more carrots - still more hands... Finally I had to ask if anybody realised what the name might be, only then did I hear a few grunts... poor 5/6J, fooled by Mrs John. Such an entertaining day, with a couple of funny pranks, but all in good fun. I am a very lucky teacher to have students who cope with my sense of humour (and yes, daggy humour at that). |
