Mr Cridland has worked so hard this Term that we think he deserves a wonderful holiday. We also hope he gets a bigger bike in the holidays!🚴😇

What an outstanding day! Congratulations to Mrs Mathieson and all involved in organising a fabulous Careers Day for 2015. I was extremely proud of 5/6J and would like to congratulate them on their amazing display of respect, inciteful questioning skills and overall awesome Aussie 5 manners! Presenters for the day were in awe of the enthusiasm shown by all students. Some of the career exhibits that we had the opportunity to visit were: librarian, Port Stephens council, dangerous goods driver, Greater Building Society, author, miner/truck driver, musician, fire brigade, police, paramedic and the Defence force. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience some of the wonderful careers on offer to them in the future.
Today we were lucky to have a special visitor in 5/6J. Kalan's mum brought their 1 year old rescue dog Gus in. Gus is a German Shephard and was very well behaved, receiving lots of pats and showing off his tricks. He mostly remembered his Aussie 5 manners - just a little slip up when he got excited and instead of shaking Kalan's hand, he thought a lick and pushing Kalan over was more fun. Thank you Julie for bringing our guest today, the students loved it!
Mitchell, Maddi and Bobcanob playing their part in the carnival. Well done girls! On Friday, 5/6J participated in the School Cross Country carnival. The students had to compete in harsh conditions, being the hottest day recorded in March in some time. Despite these circumstances, the students ran with enthusiasm and showed great sportsmanship - cheering their classmates on at every turn. An extremely proud teacher celebrated outstanding results of 5/6J students. Some students ran their personal best and others completed the 3km race for the first time ever. Other students assisted kindergarten students by running with them in a second race for the day. Well done 5/6J!
This morning's assembly saw five of our students jump in with little preparation to assist Mrs John to present this week's PBL focus. A true sign of mature leadership by these students to represent their class with pride. Well done Perri Perry, Tia, Travis, Lena and Baker!
Some reasons why we need to follow instructions:
Written by Peter Parker. In Stage 3, students are expected to read a wide variety of texts in different media and technologies. They love their 10 minutes of silent reading in the classroom. As you can see, the tyre reading seats and magazines are the favourite items in the classroom. Students are expected to practise a range of strategies and skills when reading. The Super 6 Comprehension strategies that we have investigated this term are: Predicting, Questioning, Monitoring, Visualising, Summarising and Making Connections. You may like to practise some of these with your children at home. 24 hour time5/6J were learning about 24 hour time. We made our own clocks, played some memory games and learned that the tricky times were the PM times. Don't tell Mrs Farley that we were having fun in maths at school!
Each week, I.P.S has a PBL focus. This week's focus is keeping our hands and feet to ourselves. This means everywhere, every time and by everyone. For the people that don't know what PBL means - it stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning. We do this by following the Aussie 5! Written by Locky and Michael.
This week in class we have been learning about the Super 6 Comprehension strategy called visualising. This is similar to 'making a movie in your head'. Have a look at some of our class interpretations about the text - "Wonder".
