After lunch, we decided to visit the Pre-School and see if they needed some positive role models. They were having such a wonderful day enjoying the sunshine and it was lovely watching our seniors of Irrawang interacting and encouraging our younger students. I hope you enjoy a few photos!
Today we had a mixed class of 5/6M and 5/6J - with Miss Martin, Mr Tomlins and Ms Giuffre taking our Showcase talented students for a rehearsal. We had a fabulous Aussie 5 morning completing some maths and research about a State or Territory of Australia.

On the last day of school for Term 2, ten of our classmates had the opportunity to participate in a photography workshop. They spent the day learning techniques and taking many photos. At the end of the day they were able to print their top 5 photos. I'm sure you will be as impressed as I was with the quality. Please comment and let me know which photo you like and why.
Wow! Once again, I must confess to being a super proud teacher. I would like to share with you some of the amazing moments that your children have given to Irrawang Public School today.
This year we have been reading a text called - 'Wonder', by R.J.Palacio. Our class has learned what it is like to: start a new school, be different, experience bullying, learn about qualities of friendship and most importantly - the benefits of kindness. So, after investigating a website that was kindly shared by Ms Berry - we decided to have our own day of kindness. The students made Thank you cards for staff, offered their services to help each class and played their part at IPS so generously. Our first call out involved reading to the pre-school children. A-W-E-S-O-M-E and caring 5/6 students loved being involved and we plan to do this again next term. Helpers were also needed in Year 1 maths groups, sharpening pencils, assisting with Thou-Walla, helping Ms Giuffre and kindergarten assistance. Busy, busy, busy, but fun, fun and more fun. My favourite quote was shared by Ms T in her kind comments on our blog and one of our exceptional students on the way out the door this afternoon - 'I think every day should be kindness day!' Have a look at some of the photos and I'm sure you will agree. 5/6J would like to say a big hello to the lovely class 2T! Thank you for your kind comments on our blog and also to your lovely teacher Ms T for helping me when I need to learn something new about blogs. This is our first time using a blog and I always get really excited to share the children's learning with our parents and community members at home. I will post a link on our blog to 2T's blog, so that we can share your fun learning as well. I love seeing Ms T's new posts - especially the Karate Readers, I think I may have to come and practise my reading so that I can one day be a black belt reader too! Keep up the great work 2T :)
The judges have voted! After some important taste testing, 5/6J have decided that Vegemite and chocolate - definitely should not go together. There were a lot of students running for the bin or water, to wash away the taste. Some of the adjectives were: disgusting, awful, repulsive, sickening. Only a couple of students actually liked the taste, with one surprising comment of, "This is my favourite chocolate of all time!" Have a look and see some of our interesting looks.
5/6J were very excited about Mr Cridland's birthday and had planned some lovely cards (although I'm a bit concerned about the Happy 15th birthday message). We surprised him with some glorious singing and a few funny presents. We all hope he had a wonderful day and enjoyed his day at the best school in the world!
This week in our technology lesson, I would like you to complete the following tasks:
What a lovely acknowledgement! Today I found out that I have been nominated for the New FM competition Apple for the Teacher. The winning teacher receives a computer, but the exciting part is the class all win an iPad mini!!!!! How cool would that be. So, if you can, get onto the website and vote for our class! You can vote as many times as you wish. I will post the link below: http://www.newfm.com.au/apple-for-the-teacher/ I would like to thank the mystery person who nominated me, I feel very lucky to have such a caring and fabulous class to teach every day x Click on the Vote now button below to go to the website and vote!
Due to the nature of the weather conditions, our ANZAC service has been postponed until Thursday 30th April. This week we have been learning about Anzac Day and also participating in some art lessons. We were lucky enough to have Nathan sharing his expertise with us on Monday afternoon to begin our crayon poppy pictures. Here are a couple of first day attempts, stay tuned for the finished products later this week... The finished products were on display in the hall at our Anzac Day commemoration on Thursday. Our school leaders once again conducted themselves with pride and were outstanding hosts.
Mrs John 1....5/6J - 0
I must admit to this being probably the favourite day of the year so far! It is always a good feeling to 'trick' the whole class first thing in the morning. I decided to introduce the students to a new bird in the area - The Lirpaloof :) Nobody caught on, even after I described it as being orange with purple feathers, favourite food being carrots, it only being around once a year.... it goes on.... then when I explained that I had put some carrots outside under the tree and asked if anybody wanted to try and hold up 2 carrots and call the bird to see if it would come down to us, I had a dozen hands up - they were very excited. The rest of the class eagerly walked outside, not making a sound so we didn't scare it away. The two girls were very believing, even singing to the bird to try and entice it... Still no sighting, so I asked for more volunteers to try more carrots - still more hands... Finally I had to ask if anybody realised what the name might be, only then did I hear a few grunts... poor 5/6J, fooled by Mrs John. Such an entertaining day, with a couple of funny pranks, but all in good fun. I am a very lucky teacher to have students who cope with my sense of humour (and yes, daggy humour at that). |
