5/6J have been learning about reconciliation. We have discovered that reconciliation is about bringing everyone together, providing equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and maintaining culture and identity. The New South Wales Reconciliation Council have a School Challenge art competition that is based on the theme of Homegrown Heroes. In class we have explored a few inspirational people and groups, such as Adam Goodes, Cathy Freeman and Charles Perkins. Some of our classmates have completed artworks to enter into the competition and I am very proud of their results. Thanks Mrs Godwin and Mrs Cameron for your help with these.
Congratulations must also go to the talented Year 6 students who challenged their imaginations and came up with some amazing creations in our poetry lessons. They experimented with cinquains on Tuesday, followed by exploring with some 5 senses poetry. Here are some examples:
Chocolate Chocolate is as brown as a bear. Chocolate melts deliciously in the oven or in your mouth. Pouring from the mixing bowl sounds like heaven. Squished and sticky all over my fingers. It smells like a sweet fragrance. By Fatima Fandangles Fandangles make my mouth water with delight. Fandangles taste like the creamy goodness that you get eating whipped cream on ice-cream with a cherry on top. It sounds like the enjoyment of drinking a thickshake. It smells like fairy floss at a school carnival. It looks like a two flavoured goodness of cookies and cream. Fandangles make me feel like I'm in a creamy ice-cream with choc-chip dream land. Maddi Ducks Ducks are as yellow as the sun. Ducks taste like an ice cube fuzziness. They sound like a lovely fire alarm you want to hug and squeeze. A heavenly fragrance of wet, fuzzy fur. A small, fun, yellow playful ball of feathers. It makes me feel like it's a sunny day of summer. Nitro Chicken Nuggets Chicken nuggets are golden brown. They taste like deep fried crumbed chicken. It sounds like the crunch of hot chips. The fragrance of chicken nuggets is oil as aromatic as angel's perfume. Chicken nuggets look delicious. They make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Benno and Skye Fandangles Fandangles are like rainbow skittles in your mouth. Fandangles tease you with their heavenly taste. Fandangles sound like children happily slurping the wonderful cream. The sweet heavenly fragrance of the luscious cream is like angel's perfume. Fandangles look like a delicious bundle of joy. Fandangles make me feel relaxed. Perri Perry Winter Snowflakes forming mounds of marshmallows. All warm and cuddly in front of the fire. Hot chocolate sliding down my throat. The crackling of kindling. The fragrance of fresh eucalyptus wood. Ruby and Tenille Fandangles Fandangles are a creamy white or pink heavenly delicious dream. Fandangles melt smoothly and deliciously in your mouth. Fandangles sounds like a person slurping on a hot day. Fandangles smells like a refreshing frosty fairy tale. Fandangles makes me feel like I’m on a mouth-watering holiday. Baker Anger Anger is the redness of an open flame. Anger tastes like the hot, dangerous flames from the underworld. It sounds like a pounding drum coming from the depths of my chest. It smells like burnt rotten eggs at night. Anger looks as if you were a dangerous, uneasy bomb about to blow. It makes me feel strong, powerful, undefeatable and lonely all at the same time. Izac Last week we had some very relaxed students in Year 5 participating in the NAPLAN assessments. Mr Cridland and myself were very impressed with the attitude of all our students in giving their best efforts over the three days. Congratulations Year 5 for trying hard and making us proud!
We took our learning outside the classroom this week and students had to practise using the language of rotate, reflect and translate. In pairs or groups of three, they had to instruct their group - sometimes one step, or even two and three step instructions. All teams worked collaboratively in this activity and Mr Cridland and myself were impressed with their commitment to learning. Well done 5/6J for following other students' instructions.
