This term we are learning about the Earth, moon and sun. We have been investigating the rotations and exploring some misconceptions. The students have made an orrery showing how the Earth rotates around the sun. The trick was to also show how the moon rotates around the Earth. They have done an outstanding job and will get the chance to improve on their models before the end of term.
This term we have been investigating changes in solids and liquids. We have conducted several experiments with melting and freezing, watched milk change properties and also made some sensational sherbet. In our technology lessons, the students have been learning how to use the website 'Smore' to create some posters about our adventures. Have a look at some of the results below:
5/6J have turned into crime scene detectives and had to uncover some secrets behind the strange sightings in our classroom after lunch on Monday. There were funny smells and unusual activities around the room. Students had to investigate what they could see, smell and then predict what substances were and any changes made. I was impressed with the use of technical language to describe the change in substances - from solids to liquids and the use of heat as an energy source to impact on the state of matter. Students were discussing density levels of salt, dilution rates and I am pretty sure that we may just have a scientist in the making. Way to go Scientific Superstars!
