Four super excited teachers zoomed down to Wickham on Friday 4th September to learn some exciting techniques to improve our students' writing. 5/6J positively excelled with their 'Sizzling Starts' yesterday. 'BAM!' they smashed out fantastic openings to impress me with their passion for learning. We have learnt that the first seven seconds of writing captures the reader's attention and we are experimenting with action, sounds and dialogue. See for yourself how they are doing:
Topic: The Christmas dinner from hell
I really didn't want it to happen. Christmas time and all my family arrived for dinner. All of a sudden, hell breaks loose!
"Stop the yelling! Mum, Aunty Kath, stop fighting! I mean...it's Christmas."
Tia
"Owie, owie, owie! Why did you touch the burning stove?"
Screaming and crying, Tommy answers, " I don't know."
His father yells from downstairs, "He's only five you know!"
Maddi
"Bam!" It was Christmas and I had to babysit my two little troublemakers, they're destroying the house! I can't wait for dinner to finish!
Smick
Man oh man! The meat's overcooked and the guests will be arriving in ten minutes. We don't have time to make another...
